Introduction to Australian Rail Travel

Australia is a large and diverse country full of surprises and contradictions. Yes, we have our famous outback, and there is a lot of it, but we are also one of the most urbanised nations on Earth.
Whether you live here and are looking for a great way to see your own country, or you are a visitor eager to discover this island nation, Train travel might just be for you.
This website aims to help you plan your journey. We have online timetables of every train service, every tram line and many buses and ferries too. The sheer range of operators and fares can be a bit daunting, so we make it easy by presenting all services in summary timetables with a consistent look and feel. We have more than 1,100 timetable pages, each with its unique number.
We start our timetable numbering with luxury Transcontinental trains: our Table 1 is the Indian Pacific and Table 2 is The Ghan. Then we have long distance and interstate trains from Table 22 to Table 64 - arranged State by State. Shorter distance regional suburban trains and light rail services are in Tables 200 to 621, again arranged by State. Tables 2000 to 8075 cover buses, ferries and trams - with timetable numbers aligning approximately to the postcode of the area they serve.
Timetables are available for each day a few weeks into the future. Timetables for today update in real time to display the scheduled current location of each train, tram, bus or ferry right now. Click any column head to see the complete list of stopping places for any trip.
In the Find any Timetable box below, simply enter any town or suburb name, route number, route name, postcode or operator name to find our summary timetables.
