What are the COVID impacts on Public Transport?



Local public transport has been deemed an essential service and all Sydney Trains services are operating as normal. HOWEVER, social distancing provisions mean that the number of passengers permitted to board any train is limited. If a station platform is busy, the entry barriers may be closed to prevent you from entering the platform until the crowd disperses.

How to Travel with Sydney Trains

Sydney trains are un-reserved 'turn up and go' services. Fares are covered by the
Opal
system. If you don't have an Opal card, you can use your credit card to tap on at the station before you board your train and tap off after you arrive at your destination. Just look for the brightly coloured Opal validators or entry gates at the entrance and exit to each station. If you do not touch on before boarding your train you may be fined for travelling without a ticket. If you do not touch off at your destination you may be charged more than you need to pay. All fares, whether you use your Opal card or your credit card, are calculated by distance travelled.
